The Morning After

May 9, 2011

Charlie got up this morning and promptly put his party hat back on and got to work on Elisabeth’s new Lite Brite. He has fully recovered from a little case of Birthday jitters that struck without warning yesterday.  We were on our way out to the car when he suddenly began to cry, “I’m not three.  I’m still small.  Waaaah.”  For a while Charlie has been boasting that when he turns three he will start taking showers instead of his customary bath.  Suspecting that this might be the source of his anxiety I said, “Charlie, you are three, but I don’t think you are big enough to take a shower, yet.  Do you?”  Sure enough, his sobs were reduced to sniffles and he brightened right up: “Yes, I am three, but I am still too small to take a shower.”  There’s no rush.

You sure have cute children. I’m glad you are perceptive enough to know what the root issue is.
