Mother’s and Birthday

May 8, 2011

Today Charlie and Elisabeth turn three.  It’s Mother’s day.  I have a vague, medication-hazed memory of this Mother’s day three years ago. It was the day after the unexpected birth of the twins two months early.  I remember lying in my hospital room, without the babies, crying hormonal post c-section tears, feeling so guilty for letting the babies out of the gate too soon.

Today could not have been more different from my first Mother’s day. The twins played with their birthday presents and politely wished everyone else a Happy Birthday.  We went out for a lovely Mother’s day brunch that included roast chicken at 7:30 a.m. (only reservation time available at the Longfellow Grill). I found myself in tears at church as I thought about how far we’ve come in three quick years.  It’s been my pleasure.  Mostly.
