Birthday Girl

March 21, 2011

One year ago today, the first day of spring, God gave us the best gift imaginable:

She has been sunshine and light in our life almost every day since (and those other three we don’t count because she was teething).  Charlie and Elisabeth just can’t get enough of her.  No matter the trouble, no matter how hard they are crying, when she toddles into the room they inevitably start laughing.  I came into the kitchen last week and the twins had moved their chairs to either side of her high chair announcing: “She is sitting with her big friends.” And what fun she has with her big friends! Just last night Charlie was enjoying a rousing game of “fall her down” in which he rushes at Miss P, grabs her under her armpits, and throws her as far as he can.  She just loves it.

It has been very special to have an “only” baby.  The adults in our house sit around and talk about her the way I imagined only a first child would be talked about:

“Hey did you see how Miss P kind of walked around in a circle today almost like a spin!  It was hilarious!”

Or: “Have you heard her say, ‘Buh, buh, buh.’  It’s so sweet.”

We don’t know what we would do without her. Here she is on her special day:
