Truffles

March 14, 2011

It is hard to get back on the horse and blog today after the shock of the hacking.  But we did have some excitement today.

1. One side of the “handle” on top of our car (see “About Our Car”) came loose and the loose end tapped repeatedly on Charlie’s window while we drove around today.

Charlie:  “The handle is on my side.  Aaaahhh” (lots of screaming and laughing).

2.  Then the rubber split.

Elisabeth: “Our handle has a mouth.  Aaahhh” (lots more screaming and laughing)

3. This afternoon,  Uncle Carl let the twins help him make truffles.

I’m sure if you were here, you would be lining up to enjoy one of these after little hands have been all over them.  Luckily, Carl is taking them to a dinner with friends who will never know.

If you can ever get these images out of your mind, Carl’s original truffle recipe is delicious and easy.

Carl’s Chocolate Truffles:

12 oz. heavy cream

24 oz. dark chocolate chips (bittersweet)

3tsp. vanilla

1/2 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder

1 tablespoon salt

Bring cream to a simmer, pour onto chips in a bowl.  Add vanilla.  Refrigerate overnight.

Roll into balls.  Stir salt into cocoa powder.  Roll truffles in cocoa.  Place onto a cookie sheet (with wax paper).  Refrigerate.
