Hero Part II

March 12, 2011

I wasn’t quite right when I said Jesus is the only hero the twins imitate.  Everyday their Daddy shows himself strong and wise. Just this morning he saved Elisabeth from peril.  We were still in bed and she was waiting quietly for her lamp to come on (lamps are on a timer).  We heard some muffled sobs, she was clearly trying to be quiet.  Then we heard little shouts, “No.  No, no spider.  No, Spider.”  We ran in together and she was curled up in a little ball facing away from a large spider on the wall right above her head.  I scooped her up and Dan smashed the spider (the remains of which plopped right into the middle of Elisabeth’s pillow).  We brought her to our bed and she lay between us reminiscing about the excitement.

Me:” Daddy saved you from that spider didn’t he?”

Elisabeth: “Yes, just like Jesus when he died on the cross.”

Me: “Yes.”

Elisabeth (exclaiming happily): “Because that spider was going to kill me!”

Later at breakfast,we were telling Charlie all about it.

Charlie: “Can I see the spider?”

Me: “No, because Daddy smashed him and he’s dead now.”

Elisabeth: “Just like Jesus!”

Some times the wisest words come from the lips of babes. This wasn’t one of those times.
