Just like Dad

February 17, 2011

Charlie will do ANYTHING to be like Dan.  Upon noticing that Daddy can often be found propped upin bed with a book, reading late into the night, Charlie has replaced normal sleep props (such as a blanket or teddy) with a fat work of fiction.  He wakes in the night crying NOT  for his teddy bear, but for “my book”–currently a 600 page novel by Abraham Verghese.

And someone told him that this stuffed animal–

–was Daddy’s when dad was a little boy.  Now he insists on sleeping with his monkey. At two a.m. he called me to come look into the monkey’s face:

“See this face.  This monkey’s scared.  He’s scared about fraggles.”

There are several things wrong here:
1. The monkey is clearly a lion.
2. He named it “little Mamaw” after my great aunt.
3. It exploded last night.  Resulting in a bed full of beans (below).

    From “hitter # 1073”,

Great to read these little snippets! You make parenting three tiny kids sound FUN! I love the vignettes and the pictures. I’m glad Charlie is able enjoying the book (some parts may be a little racy for the boy but all and all I think this will rate up there with Good Night Moon as one of his favorite childhood books). Don’t let him drool or chew the pages shut as Terra has to read it in Mexico. Keep up the good work! Be sure to check out the Geico Commercial to see what intellectual accomplishments are next as your kids grow up.

I hope little Mamaw can be re-stuffed and stitched.

Oh Charlie, how sad. Was there a service for Mamaw? Has a new bed mate been adopted?
